Use this article to make a video file smaller so you can upload it to the myflow Media Library, where each file can be a maximum of 2 GB. This is useful when a screen recording, camera file or course video is too large to upload to myflow.
Why does my video need to be compressed before I upload it to myflow?
The myflow media library accepts files up to 2 GB each, so a video larger than 2 GB has to be made smaller before you can upload it. Compressing a video re-encodes it at a lower quality setting, which reduces the file size while keeping the same footage and length. For myflow, 1080p at 60 frames per second (fps) is a good target: it stays sharp on a website, landing page or course video, and it keeps most recordings under 2 GB. Long videos may still need a lower resolution or a lower quality setting to fit within 2 GB.
Which video formats can I upload to myflow?
The myflow Media Library supports the two most common video formats: MP4 and MOV. When you compress a video, save the result as MP4 or MOV so that you can upload it to the myflow Media Library and use it on your pages and in your courses. HandBrake, the program described below, exports MP4, which myflow supports.
How do I compress a video with HandBrake?
HandBrake is a free, open-source program for Windows, Mac and Linux that you can use to compress a video before uploading it to the myflow Media Library. HandBrake is not part of myflow, and the steps below describe HandBrake's own interface.
Download HandBrake from handbrake.fr and install it on your computer.
Open HandBrake and click Open Source, then select the video file you want to compress.
In the preset list, choose a 1080p preset as your starting point.
Open the Video tab and set Framerate (FPS) to 60, or leave it as Same as source if your recording is already 60 fps or lower.
Open the Summary tab and set Format to MP4.
Click Browse to choose where the new file is saved, then click Start Encode.
When HandBrake finishes, check the size of the new file on your computer before you upload it.
You now have a new, smaller MP4 file next to your original. If it is under 2 GB, you can upload it to the myflow Media Library.
What if my video is still larger than 2 GB after compressing?
If the compressed file is still over the 2 GB limit in the myflow Media Library, try one of these in HandBrake and encode the video again:
Lower the framerate from 60 fps to 30 fps, or lower the resolution from 1080p to 720p.
Split a long video into shorter parts and compress each part separately, so that every file stays under 2 GB.
💡 Note: Each file also counts toward the total storage included in your myflow plan, so compressing your videos leaves more room in your Media Library.
