Use this article to connect your own email account to myflow with SMTP, so the newsletters and automations you send from myflow go out through your email provider, such as Gmail. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the standard method email programs use to send email.
How do I connect my email to myflow with SMTP?
To connect your email account to myflow with SMTP, you need your email provider's SMTP details and the login for your email account.
In myflow, go to Settings > Communication settings.
In the Email settings card, under Delivery method, choose SMTP.
Fill in the five SMTP fields, as described in the table below.
Click Verify and save.
The table below shows what to enter in each SMTP field in myflow's Email settings.
Field | What to enter |
Server address | Your email provider's SMTP server address, for example smtp.gmail.com for Gmail |
Server port | The port your email provider lists, usually 587 or 465 |
Server username | Your full email address, for example [email protected] |
Server password | The password for your email account. For Gmail, use a Google app password |
Sender email | The "From" address your recipients see, almost always the same as your server username |
When you click Verify and save, myflow tests the connection to your email provider and saves your SMTP settings. Your newsletters and automations are then sent from myflow through your email account.
What server address do I enter for SMTP in myflow?
The server address in myflow's SMTP settings is your email provider's outgoing mail server, the address myflow connects to when it sends your emails. For Gmail, the server address is smtp.gmail.com.
For other email providers, search online for your provider's name followed by "SMTP settings", and enter the SMTP server address your provider lists in the Server address field under Settings > Communication settings in myflow.
Which port do I use for SMTP in myflow?
In myflow's SMTP settings, enter the server port your email provider lists for sending email. The most common SMTP ports are 587 and 465. Check your provider's SMTP settings to see which one to use.

What do I enter as server username in myflow's SMTP settings?
In myflow's SMTP settings, the server username is your full email address, for example [email protected]. The server username tells your email provider which email account myflow should log in to when it sends your emails with SMTP.
What password do I use for SMTP in myflow?
In myflow's SMTP settings, the server password is the password for your email account. Your email provider uses the server username and server password together to confirm that myflow is allowed to send email from your account.

myflow tests the connection and saves your settings. Your newsletters and automations are then sent from myflow through your Gmail account.
Why does myflow say my email settings are not valid?
When myflow can't connect to your email provider with the SMTP settings you entered, you see the message Your email settings are not valid, check them and try again under Settings > Communication settings, and a pop-up saying myflow could not connect with the settings supplied. Below the message, myflow shows the error it got from your email provider.
To fix the SMTP connection in myflow:
Check the spelling of the server address. For Gmail it's smtp.gmail.com, not smtp.google.com.
Check that the server port matches the port your email provider lists, usually 587 or 465.
Check that the server username is your full email address.
Check the server password. For Gmail, use a Google app password, not your regular password.
Click Verify and save again.
💡 Note: If the error details say Connection timed out, myflow couldn't reach the server address and port you entered. Check those two fields first.
When the settings are correct, myflow saves them and the error message no longer shows.
Should I use SMTP or the myflow mail server?
SMTP in myflow works best with standard email addresses such as @gmail.com or @outlook.com. If you use an email address on your own domain, such as @yourcompany.com, and send newsletters to many recipients, the myflow mail server gives better deliverability than SMTP. To compare the two delivery methods, see Choosing the right email setting: SMTP vs. myflow mail server.
